A DROITWICH man has been jailed for eight weeks and ordered to pay costs at Kidderminster Magistrates Court.

Richard Howlett, 35, of Wych Road, Droitwich, was charged with twice breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which stopped him from entering shops in Droitwich.

He was also convicted of shoplifting from Marks and Spencer, Worcester Road, Evesham, on Monday and disorderly behaviour during the same incident. While stealing alcohol worth £120 the store manager confronted Howlett about the theft and was threatened with violence when he gave chase to get the stock back. Most of the alcohol was recovered but Howlett escaped with one bottle.

Howlett was arrested at an Evesham address on Tuesday by Worcester’s Integrated offender Manager team (IOM) and remanded to appear before the court.

PC Richard Rees from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Howlett has been given all the help and support possible to try and steer him away from criminality.

“He shows no remorse for his actions and he shows no desire to change his ways.”

The two-year CBO imposed on Howlett in August 2016 already prevents him entering Droitwich town centre businesses covered by an exclusion zone.

Other shops Howlett has previously stolen from are also covered and following the incidents the court has been asked to extend the order with further restrictions to protect local businesses.
