TO mark world autism acceptance week a Droitwich man will be taking on a live gameathon on Twitch to raise money and awareness for a cause close to his heart.
Mitch Reed and his friend Bruce Harrison from Worcester will be playing family-friendly video games for six hours straight on Sunday from midday to raise cash for the national autistic society(NAS).
Although not regular Twitch streamers, Mitch and Bruce have been hosting events similar to this for the past three years, with 2022’s gameathon raising almost £1000.
The pair are going for a smaller target this time around due to the impact the cost-of-living crisis is having on people but are as eager as ever to play their part.
This cause is very important to Mitch, whose son is on the Autism spectrum.
Mitch said before his son was diagnosed he wasn’t fully aware of what autism was and feels more awareness will help in this regard.
“To me and my wife, he is an emphatically inquisitive young boy who loves animals, solving puzzles and doing maths and science.
“We wouldn’t change a single thing about him and my wife has been incredible in terms of support for him.
“I think it’s important people realise autism isn’t a problem, it’s just a different way a person’s mind works and hopefully we can help with highlighting that in our own way.
“Lots of people may not have spare money they can give away, even to charities but any money we do raise will be highly appreciated and will go a long way to helping those living with autism one way or another.”
The NAS aims to transform lives and change attitudes to help create a society that works for autistic people.
