A DROITWICH man travelled from Land’s End to John o’ Groats on his motorbike last month in order to raise money for the charity Victim Support.
Craig Tuplin packed his bags, brushed his teeth and headed to Land’s End on July 4 on what was supposed to be a sunny afternoon.
“The forecast said it was going to be warm weather but it rained for the entire journey,” he recalls.
Whilst disheartened at first, Craig’s mood soon picked back up after Leaving Land’s End on Thursday July 5.
“I absolutely loved going past Dartmoor and seeing the sun rise, it was truly spectacular.”
Craig met his family at Frankley services to exchange words of encouragement before setting off again.
“I was doing so well and it was all going to plan,” he said.
“But then as I was going past the Blackpool turning on the M6, I picked up a major puncher on one of my tires.”
Struggling, he managed to steer his bike in to the nearest available service station where he waited for the AA to come out and rescue him.
“They put me back on the road but I was limited to 50mph due to the puncher repair.”
Finally he managed to get his tire changed in East Killbride, just outside Glasgow, and was feeling good to be back at full-speed.
“When I finally made it to John o’ Groats it felt like such an achievement, I had been on such a journey.
“I was a victim of crime myself and that’s why I’m so happy to raise money for this charity in particular.”
Craig raised more than £450 but is still hoping to hit his £500 target.
