JANUARY has been a very active month.
The awards ceremony of the Droitwich Dolphins Swimming Club took place at Worcester Rugby Club, Sixways.
A joyous and jubilant occasion. Over 70 young swimmers gained awards and certificates.
Training is taken seriously including four training sessions a week at Droitwich Leisure Centre and further training sessions at Kings School, Worcester and Holy Trinity, Kidderminster.
A notable feature of the club is the active membership of adults including trainers and parents whose support is essential.
The club is preparing to apply for a Worcester Community grant to finance purchase of new starting blocks.
The Norbury Theatre held its annual pantomime which this year was Cinderella. A large cast of performers and dancers and fantastic music and choreography combined to present a most enjoyable and entertaining event which has been widely applauded.
The occasion was a sell-out and was well-attended by mayors and chairmen from neighbouring towns.
The official opening of the Perdiswell Leisure Centre took place on January 24 with a large attendance of mayors and officials. No expense has been spared in creating a state of the art health and fitness centre with 25metre swimming pool with eight lanes, learners’ pool and a well equipped gymnasium.
Mindful of the town’s rich heritage, leaders of Droitwich Town Walks, accompanied by members of the Norbury Theatre and administrative staff of the Heritage Centre, met to determine the programme of walks for March to November and to arrange publicity.
Walking tours are planned to commence at the Heritage Centre at 11am during the second Saturday of each month.
To look ahead, on Friday (February 24) at the Droitwich Working Men’s Club will be a performance by the renowned Sauce City Jazzmen. Tickets £10. All welcome. Pay at the door. Proceeds to the Mayor’s charities.
