Droitwich MP urges schools to partake in FA campaign to get girls playing football

MID Worcestershire’s MP is encouraging more schools in the region to partake in a national FA campaign to get young girls playing football at the same time.

The #LetGirlsPlay training session will be hosted on Friday, March 8 with Mr Huddleston encouraging as many of the regions schools to get involved..

He said the training session is great for encouraging more girls into football, while promoting greater equality in sport.

Many schools in the region have already signed up, marking the third annual session of the campaign. Last year in 2023, a record 285,000 girls took part.

In 2020, the FA set an ambitious target for 75 per cent of schools to deliver equal access to football in PE lessons by 2024.

Outside of school, there has also been a 39 per cent increase in the number of female youth teams since 2021.

This follows on from an historic 18 months in which the Lionesses have become EURO champions and World Cup finalists, and where we have seen transformational growth in girls’ football in England.

Nigel Huddleston MP added: “The session gives greater access to the sport so many of us enjoy.

“I know that many schools in my Mid Worcestershire constituency are already hosting events, and I strongly welcome any further events being organised.”
