A DROITWICH couple have revealed the secret to a happy marriage after celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.
Tony Sawyer met his future wife Margaret on her family farm in Stratford Upon Avon.
He would often visit the farm to pick fruit and later began helping out with jobs whilst he was in sixth form.
After years of courting, the couple tied the knot on December 29, 1953, at St Gregory’s Church in Stratford.
Margaret said: “The weather was chilly but sunny on our wedding day. I made my own dress – it was a beautiful gown with a collar and buttons all the way down the front.”
To celebrate their Platinum anniversary, Margaret and Tony, who now live at Droitwich’s Woodland View Care Home, enjoyed their favourite meal of baked haddock and homemade tiramisu with their four children.
They also received a card from King Charles III, congratulating them on their anniversary.
Tony and Margaret revealed the secret to a happy marriage was to ‘be each other’s best friend’ as well as saying ‘yes dear’ to your partner in a dispute before doing whatever you were planning in the first place.
