Droitwich nursery opens forest school for children's enrichment

A NURSERY in Droitwich has shared its excitement in opening a brand-new forest school in the hopes of igniting a love of nature to support children’s learning and development.

Busy Bees Droitwich, on Worcester Road, officially opened its forest school this week and is available to pre-school children currently attending.

Led by a trained forest school practitioner, the school offers a range of enriching outdoor activities to engage children in hands-on learning experiences, using only natural resources from the surrounding environment.

From bird watching and plant identification to learning about fire safety, the environment emphasises the importance of problem-solving and understanding of the world in a fun and educational way.

The forest school is located just a few minutes’ walk on the grounds of Dorset House Nursing Home, where the nursery and home work closely together to foster a sense of community.

The nursery is managed by centre director, Lucy Price, who has a passion for the environment and sustainability. She said she’s ‘excited for the new space which she feels will prepare children for the outdoor world and for school’.

Lucy said: “We believe children flourish when they are encouraged to connect with the world around them.

“I believe this outdoor space will provide our children with invaluable life skills. Not only will they learn about nature, but they’ll also develop resilience, confidence and independence.”

“Our families are thrilled about the school, as the children love spending time outdoors and exploring nature. We can’t wait to invite our families to visit and experience this wonderful space themselves.”

In addition to the Forest School, Busy Bees Droitwich has launched an energy efficiency scheme, a collaborative effort involving both the children and the nursery team.

Since August 2024, the entire nursery has been actively participating in switching off the lights at 10am and 2pm when rooms are not in use, teaching the children the importance of sustainability and energy conservation.

Lucy and Sam, assistant centre director, are also members of the Busy Bees Eco Ambassadors Network which plays a key role in shaping sustainability efforts.

The nursery also has an eco committee where the pre-schoolers share their sustainability ideas.
