AN OPTICIANS in Droitwich has helped to ensure disadvantaged children will receive gifts this Christmas by collecting 75 toy-filled shoeboxes.

Specsavers on St Andrews Square acted as a collection point for the initiative, which is run by UK-based charity Samaritan’s Purse.

The campaign encouraged staff, customers and the local community to get involved by filling a shoebox with a range of treats for youngsters.

“Getting involved with this year’s Operation Christmas Child was really fulfilling for the whole team,” said store director Emma Singh.

“Christmas is such a joy-filled time but there are some children who don’t receive presents.

“These shoeboxes are a great way to bring some Christmas cheer to underprivileged children.”

Samaritan’s Purse is an international relief and development organisation providing aid to disadvantaged communities in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Operation Christmas Child is one of the organisation’s biggest initiatives, with thousands of churches, schools and businesses across the country donating and collecting shoeboxes to be sent overseas.
