Droitwich Police tell residents to 'report irresponsible pavement parking if they are obstructed'

Droitwich Editorial 24th Sep, 2019   0

PEOPLE in Droitwich whose path is blocked by illegal, irresponsible or dangerous pavement parking should report it to the police – that is the message from the town’s Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Sarah Kent.

The issue was raised by Coun Bob Brookes during a question and answer session with the officer at last night’s Droitwich Town Council meeting.

He asked her opinion on the best action for obstructed residents to take as he had seen on social media action had been taken in other areas against problem parkers.

Sgt Kent said people needed to report incidents to the police as they happened.

But she added there needed to be a definite obstruction – such as a parent with a pushchair, a wheelchair user or someone on a mobility scooter being blocked to the extent that they would have to go into the road to get by.

She advised people to record the make and model of the vehicle and the registration number and said action could still be taken if the vehicle had driven off by the time officers arrived.

The people who were obstructed would need to give a statement to the police could follow up the infringement.

Anyone obstructed by vehicles on Droitwich’s pavements should call police on 101 while the incident is taking place to report it.
