Droitwich's St Andews public toilet is 'the best in the UK'

DROITWICH is officially home to the country’s best public toilet after it flushed away competition to reach the top spot of the Loo of the Year awards.

The convenience in the town’s St Andrew’s Precinct took top honours at the national awards during a ceremony in Solihull.

The accolades are organised by the British Toilet Association which ranks loos provided by different organisations on a range of factors that together make them clean, safe and hygienic.

Inspectors pay a visit to each toilet before issuing a bronze, silver, gold or platinum rating and specific awards for the best performing toilets in a variety of categories.

Overall Wychavon’s 11 public loos in Broadway, Droitwich, Evesham and Pershore were awarded seven platinum and four gold awards.

The strong performance meant the council kept its place in the Champions League of Loos, made up of those organisations who consistently maintain their toilets to the highest of standards.

It is the second time Wychavon has been given the title after first winning in 2014.

Coun Emma Stokes, Executive Board Member for Environment at Wychavon District Council, said: “We’re flushed with pride at winning this award, which shows it is possible to make savings while continuing to maintain high standards.

“Special thanks to our contractor Mitie for the excellent job it does, this award is as much their success as it is ours.”

New adult changing facilities will also be introduced in the toilets in St Andrew`s Precinct, Droitwich and Viaduct meadow, Evesham. Work is expected to be complete by next spring.
