PUPILS at a Droitwich school were delighted to see the official opening of their new library.
Westacre Middle School pupils returned from the summer holiday to try out their new library facility, stocked with over 7,000 books.
The new design is complete with a life sized tree, comfy sofas, a breakout area, touch screen computers and cafe style reading research areas.
Head teacher Donna Evans said, “Reading is at the heart of our curriculum.
“We foster a love of reading both for learning and pleasure.
“A whole new library was a huge investment but our children deserve a welcoming well-resourced library that all children can access.”
The new library will provide children with a place to relax and read during break time, after a busy day of school or partake in reading sessions delivered by the librarian.
School librarian, Amanda Burton, said: “Our library is the hub of the school.
“It is used throughout the school day and is very popular during break and lunchtimes when children can come and relax with a book of their choice.
“Our pupil librarians are a group of avid readers who help keep the library running smoothly.”
Head girl, Laila Mullings and Head boy, Henry Ginns were part of the ceremony to officially open the new library.
Henry said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the new library.
“It’s definitely going to encourage more children to come and read here.”
Rachel Murray, the English and Reading leader at Westacre added: “ The project has been a fantastic success.
“We wanted to create to a calm and tranquil space in school for children to develop a love of reading and inspire their imagination and that’s exactly what we got.
“It’s a fantastic addition to our already established reading culture.”
