Droitwich ready for the next round of ArtsFest fun after getting off to a flier

DROITWICH ArtsFest 2017 got off to a fabulous start, organisers say, having launched on Saturday, July 15, writes Katie Bowen.

A large crowd descended on St Andrew’s Square where the town crier opened the event, alongside speeches from Mayor of Droitwich Coun Shaun Best and Nigel Huddleston MP.

Worcester based group ‘Voices Unlimited’ kicked off the festival with an energetic performance, followed later in the day by ‘Sing and Tonic’ from Droitwich. ‘Swing 42’ provided some background music throughout the afternoon, and St Andrew’s Church welcomed Droitwich Spa High School, where a music showcase was presented with a variety of different performances.

The entertainment continues this week and next.

On Tuesday, July 25, Graham Short will present in Droitwich Old Library on how he goes to mental and physical extremes to produce some of the world’s best engravings at 7.30pm. This is a ‘pay what you want event’, with a suggested contribution of £4.

At 10am on Friday and Saturday, July 28 and 29, an artist in residence will work in Droitwich Library – these are free events which anyone can enjoy.

An art walk will commence from Meetbox in St Andrew’s Square next Saturday, July 29 at 10am and 2pm, where artists (no matter of skill level) will be provided with sketching material and guidance from experienced artists. There will also be a photography walk at 10.30am and 2.30pm on the same day, meeting at the Meetbox also. Guidance will be provided from Droitwich Camera Club members to assist beginners.

Next Sunday, July 30, is also packed full of events: 2.30pm will see the Celebration Reed and Brass Band perform in Droitwich Lido Park and the St Andrew’s Town Hotel will welcome Malcolm Stent’s ‘Hilarious Tales of Old Brum’ evening at 7pm. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased from the Meetbox in St Andrew’s Square. Tickets can alternatively be purchased by emailing [email protected] or by calling Malcolm Wakeman on 01905 796 839 or Rhys Jones on 07787 227390.
