THIS WEEKEND the annual celebration of Droitwich’s salt heritage takes place in Vines Park.
And it hails the first time for almost a century the world’s first and only known salt made from pure brine springs returning to production.
Today Churchfields Saltworks launches its unique and naturally delicious gourmet salt for foodies and chefs alike.
Since 1825 Droitwich salt has been celebrated and recognised worldwide for its great purity, but sadly production of the 100 per cent natural salt ceased in 1922.
Thankfully local family farm Churchfields decided to revive arguably the oldest and purest salt springs in the world and recently opened a new Saltworks.
At the Churchfields stall, residents and visitors will be able to taste the full Droitwich Salt range including the gourmet salt, salted butter, salted caramel ice cream and salted caramel fudge made by Wychbold Fudge.
Will Kerton, partner at Churchfields Saltworks said having grown up in the area he was immensely proud to be part of the product revival.
He added it was fitting to launch the products at Salt Fest and that he was looking forward to hearing people’s invaluable feedback.
Droitwich Salt will be available to taste and buy at Ludlow Food Festival from today and throughout Salt Fest tomorrow and Sunday.
Visit www.saltfest.co.uk for more information on the festival.
