Droitwich residents urged to have their say on town's CCTV provision

Droitwich Editorial 19th Sep, 2017   0

DROITWICH residents are being urged to have their say on the town’s CCTV provision.

The consultation of cameras covering Droitwich, Broadway, Evesham and Pershore, is being carried out by Wychavon District Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

CCTV is monitored centrally at the main Pershore offices and the system has been in operation since 1999. The aim of the service has always been to prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of offenders.

Footage is regularly requested by West Mercia Police to help with both investigations and active incidents, and over 800 such requests were made in 2016, but Wychavon has decided that after 18 years of operation the service is ripe for review.

Members of the council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee have been asked to look into the service further.

Coun Alastair Adams, Chair of Overview and Scrutiny for Wychavon, said “We’re keen to know what people think about the service, especially if they have had first-hand experience or are from an interested group or organisation.

“So please share your views with us.”

The review team is inviting those interested in giving their views to a session on September 26 at the Wychavon Civic Centre in Pershore.

People should get there at 9am, ready to start at 9.30am.

Residents will be asked to share their experiences to help the review team to make its recommendations to the executive board.
