Droitwich residents urged to tell Highways bosses which roads in the district need improving

Droitwich Editorial 19th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH residents have been urged to let Worcestershire County Council know which roads in the district they feel need attention as part of the authority’s new ‘Driving Home Programme’.
Work which may need doing on the county’s roads includes minor patching, surface dressing, a complete reconstruction or resurfacing.
Once roads have been nominated, a special car is sent out to assess the road surfaces and, in rural and hilly areas, there is a 4×4 ‘skid’ vehicle which also analyses road surfaces for skid dangers.
Highways bosses stress any work carried out will be subject to external factors, such as extreme weather or emergency road repairs.
Almost 40 miles of improvements to local roads and 3,600 homes across the council have so far benefited from the project which began in April.
Over the next two years, the council is investing £12million to improve the roads closest to where people live, in addition to the continuing commitment of £10million assigned to main roads.
The Driving Home team has been collecting data about the state of the roads and liaising with local members to ensure the roads that need improvement and those which are most important to residents are included in the programme.
State-of-the-art machinery has been used to survey the county’s roads and the data overlaid with the number of residents on each stretch.
Visit www.worcestershire.gov.uk/drivinghome for more information on the Driving Home programme.
On the page, residents can also nominate roads they feel are in need of attention.
