Droitwich Rugby boss hits out as vandals strike at club and nature nursery

Droitwich Editorial 22nd Aug, 2023   0

DROITWICH Rugby Club has hit out at vandals which caused damage to its premises last night (Monday) and at different times last week.

The perpetrators used knives to slash through the club’s new post protectors and damaged equipment used by the Mini Explorers’ Nature Nursery.

Craig Browne, from the club, said: “We have Wychfest taking place at the weekend and this is the last thing we needed.

“I don’t understand why anyone would do this to a community club like ours which is a voluntary organisation that works very hard to bring sport and events to the town.

“The nursery – which has also been target – provides a service to the community and is the livelihood of the owners and employees.”

The club’s CCTV showed three young men and a young woman on the premises – the footage has now been passed to West Mercia Police, who Droitwich Rugby Club are working with in a bid to catch the culprits.

Mr Browne added: “Both DRFC and Mini Explorers will as always continue our hard work hopefully with support of the local police and authorities we will get to the bottom of who has done this.”

In the meantime, he said, the club was focused on preparing for Wychfest – the festival taking place at the club from Friday to Sunday, August 25 to 27.

It will feature live music, bars, street food, a fire show and activities for all ages.
