A DROITWICH runner has gone from the Couch to 5k to the London Marathon in just two years, writes Esther Payne.

And Patty Denning, 48, be taking on the 26.2mile course this Sunday, April 22, for the charity MIND.

The charity provides help and support to people who suffer with a mental health issue and campaigns to raise awareness and understanding.

In 2016, Patty ran her first half-marathon in Birmingham after completing a ‘Couch to 5K’ course.

Since then, she has run two 10Ks, four half-marathons and one full marathon.

She said: “I started running two years ago using an app on my phone, I’d never run before this and never thought I would be able to.

“I suffered with depression and other problems and running really helped.”

Patty, who creates soft furnishings for and paints narrow boats, has raised more than £1,000 so far in donations, and hopes to exceed her £2,000 target.

She added: “I love life now, my confidence has really grown.

“Running has been my anti-depressant, it really is a therapy that works.

“Training has all gone well despite the snow, wind and sub-zero temperatures.

“All I can do now is hope it all pays off on race day.”
