Droitwich salon owner offering bikini wax discount to women who book smear tests 'pleased with response'

A DROITWICH beauty salon owner who is offering discounted bikini waxes to urge women to book their smear test has been pleased with the response so far.

Rachel Harrison, owner of Inspire on High Street, has been offering 20 per cent off the treatment for up to a week before the woman has her test if she brings in her appointment letter.

Receiving both positive and negative comments about the deal, which has been in place since Cervical Cancer Awareness Week at the end of January, Rachel is pleased it has got people openly talking about smear tests.

The salon’s post on Facebook was seen by up to 70,000 people and was shared hundreds of times with salons across the country now contacting Inspire to ask if they can copy the idea.

She said: “There have been 15 people we know of who have gone out and got their smear test because of the offer and more people are also calling us up to tell us they’ve been and chatting about it in the salon.

“It has caused a bit of controversy because people thought we were saying women have to groom themselves before having the test but that is definitely not what we intended.

“It can be scary to go for a smear test and I can see why some women are being put off from going.

“Providing the bikini wax is all about giving women confidence and helping them feel comfortable about themselves.”

Rachel hopes to offer the discount for the rest of the year in a bid to keep women booking their test.

“Cervical cancer is really preventable and a smear test is so quick to do, it just takes five minutes.

“We have great relationships with our clients at the salon, we know them and we go through life together.

“We just want to encourage people to go for their test and we are so glad it is being discussed openly.”
