A new pre-school nursery has officially opened its doors in Droitwich.
Chawson First School’s new nursery has been developed thanks to £650,000 of grant funding from Worcestershire County Council in a bid to meet an increasing demand for places within the community.
Children will have plenty of space to explore different areas of learning, including reading, language and social skills at the new nursery.
A large outdoor area will also be accessible for physical and outdoor educational activity.
Funding from Section 106 Education Obligations was allocated to develop a nursery after the school’s age range was lowered from 5 to 9-year-olds to 3 to 9-year-olds.
Councillor Tracey Onslow, cabinet member for Education at Worcestershire County Council said: “I’m really pleased to hear the positive impact the new pre-school building is having on children and I’m really glad we’ve been able to help meet demand for places in the local community.”
Chair of Governors, Nick Sanders said: “We are very excited for the opening of Chawson Pre-School.
“It is a delight to see this impressive new building come alive, providing a vital foundation for our children as they begin their educational journey watched over by a caring and committed staff team.”
Rebecca Redfern, a multiple medalist in Paraswimming from Droitwich, who cut the ribbon at the opening event said: “I am honoured to be a part of the opening of the new Preschool building at Chawson First School.
“This is a wonderful addition to the school and the community which I’m sure will be an exciting learning experience for future children and their families.”
The Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Councillor Kate Fellows, also attended the official opening.
