PLANS to set up a ‘small chamber of commerce’ in Droitwich are now close to becoming a reality after ‘great progress’ was made at its latest start-up meeting.
The new Droitwich Spa Business Association (DBA) appointed its two acting joint chairs at a meeting at the Old Cock Inn last Thursday.
The DBA has also appointed nine committee members made up of town centre store holders and local business people, and several others have already signed up to be part of the group.
However, the position of treasurer has not yet been filled, with the DBA looking for someone suitable to take on the role.
The treasurer is needed to set up a community interest company and a bank account as well as being responsible for looking after possible membership fees.
The DBA’s initial tasks will involve deciding its initial purpose, objectives and goals as well as setting up a group constitution.
The group will also look to decide whether there will be a small membership fee.
The idea for a retailers and small traders group was raised at the annual town meeting in March after several local entrepreneurs expressed concerns about the struggles for businesses in the town centre in particular.
Those involved in setting the group up feel there is a need to increase footfall in the high street, with many concerned about empty shops.
Previous ideas discussed by the DBA members have included running more events on the high street, introducing pop-up sculptures and other art and establishing links with local councils to feed ideas and thoughts to.
The next DBA meeting will now be on Thursday, July 11 at around 5pm at the Old Cock Inn.
