DROITWICH SPA High School is celebrating its ten year link with the New Delhi’s Rajmas RK Puram School in India which has seen cultural exchanges enjoyed by students in both countries.

From Droitwich to Delhi and continents apart, the decade-long cultural exchange is supported by the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms Programme with joint curriculum projects in areas such as leadership, music and literature.

Inspiring positive cultural integration to stimulate evolved methods of teaching, the programme has made a powerful contribution to the professional development of teachers from both continents.

Staff at the Droitwich school organised four days of cultural activities, trips and tours when six students and three teachers from Rajmas RK Puram came over to visit from September 19 to 24. The tenth anniversary celebrations involved a special assembly with presentations and music by students from both schools.

The programme has been designed to expand horizons and encourage students to learn more about themselves and the wider world. A biennial trek through the Himalayas for students from both schools is an adventurous highlight of this very exciting cultural exchange.

Deputy headteacher Karen Moore said: “We are very proud of our international links at the High School.

“We have partner schools in Africa, in India and this year for the first time our students travelled to Thailand to undertake community work.

“Currently, students in the partner schools are working together on projects about health and nutrition, child rights and poetry,” she said.
