Droitwich Spa High School cashes in on major government funding scheme

A DROITWICH school is among many experiencing infrastructure improvements thanks to government funding across the West Midlands.

Droitwich Spa High School and Sixth Form received funds to replace windows throughout the school, making the building warmer and more energy efficient than last year.

The investment was part of £1.8 billion of government money announced for the 2024-25 academic year, with the aim of enhancing schools and sixth form colleges across England.

A Droitwich Spa High School spokesperson said: “The window replacement scheme at DSHS has had a huge positive impact on our school.

“The site is warmer and also we don’t have to deal with condensation in the winter.

“It is also much easier for us to regulate the temperature and our energy bills have fallen considerably, giving us more money to spend on positive things for the children.”

In total, 74 schools in the West Midlands will directly benefit from over £38.6million allocated through the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF).

This funding will facilitate upgrades such as heating systems, roof replacements, and electrical system rewiring, ensuring safer and more comfortable learning spaces for students.

In addition to structural improvements, the funding will also cover the modernisation of ICT equipment and playground upgrades.

Schools minister Damian Hinds said: “From day-to-day maintenance to long lasting structural improvements this funding will support schools in the West Midlands in providing high quality learning environments for all our children.

“We want every child to realise their potential and great school buildings are just one part of our work to drive up standards across the education system – with more pupils in good and outstanding schools than ever before.”

All together, 733 schools and sixth form colleges nationwide, including those within small academy trusts or voluntary aided bodies, will receive a portion of £450million in CIF funding.

Schools under the governance of local councils, multi-academy trusts, and large voluntary aided school groups will also receive support, with nearly £1.2billion allocated through School Condition Allocations.
