Droitwich Spa High School held its own mock election

Droitwich Editorial 17th Jun, 2017   0

STUDENTS at Droitwich Spa High school headed to the polls as part of a month of political themed activities to engage them with the general election.

Years eight, nine, ten and 12 voted for their preferred party in the ‘Droitwich Spa high school constituency’ during a mock election.

The students took part in four weeks of election based activities which included a visit from by Worcestershire West MP Nigel Huddleston and a competition to design their own political parties with platforms and campaign literature.

They also did an analysis of the manifestos of the various parties and scrutiny of the all parties during a political broadcast through the schools ‘DSHS News’ video, recorded and played to the students every week.

Head of Politics, Mark Drew, said: “It’s so important for young people to be engaged and interested in Politics and the diverse nature of 2017’s candidates and manifestos offered them a distinctive and real choice.

“In our AS and A2 politics classes, we stress the importance of having principles and finding a party that best suits them, not letting any party dictate what their core beliefs should be. We are encouraging students to see the importance of voting, regardless of who it might be for.”
