A NEW lighting scheme has been installed in Droitwich Spa high street, as part of efforts to improve the look and feel of the town centre.
The overhead chain of festoon lights starts at the Parish of Droitwich Spa Church and zig zags across various buildings before ending at Ace Essentials.
Although they have been installed just in time for Christmas – to add some extra beauty to the high street while shoppers hunt for festive bargains – they are a permanent addition to the town and will be used throughout the year.
During the winter, they will be on from 3pm until 10pm everyday.
The project has been delivered by Droitwich Spa Place Board, working with Wychavon, and funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
An overhead lighting scheme forms part of the Droitwich Spa Investment Prospectus, funded by Wychavon to help the town continue to thrive in the future.
It is the first part of a larger project to improve the town’s nighttime economy.
Councillor Richard Morris, executive board member for economic growth and tourism on Wychavon District Council, said: “This is something traders have long called for, and I’m delighted, working with Droitwich Spa Place Board, we have been able to deliver that.
“They look amazing and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere people will want to spend time in and discover everything Droitwich Spa has to offer.”

“They really enhance the appearance of the high street, and visitors can enjoy them while finishing off their Christmas shopping with the amazing local businesses we have here in Droitwich Spa.”
