Droitwich Spa Hospital gives sneak preview of its Waddle of Worcester penguin

Droitwich Editorial 8th Jul, 2024   0

THE STAFF at Droitwich Spa Hospital have revealed a sneak peak of their Waddle of Worcester penguin.

The ‘Blue Penguin’ has been carefully designed and created by artist and author Petr Horacek for the 2024 trail which will raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice this summer.

Up until now, the design had been kept ‘under wraps’ but the hospital has now been been permitted to release some teaser shots of their penguin.

Bosses at the Droitwich Spa Hospital praised St Richard’s for the amazing care and support it provides for patients and added they were thrilled to have the opportunity to give something back. They said this was particularly poignant as the hospice had cared for beloved friends and relatives of the hospital and had touched so many lives with their warmth and compassion.

Each penguin will form part of a trail for tourists and locals to complete over the summer.

At the end of the event, each penguin will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to support the vital work of St Richard’s Hospice.

Droitwich Spa Hospital hopes to raise funds to buy its ‘blue penguin’ at the auction and will then find him a new home at the Worcestershire site.

The design will go on full display on July 22.

Droitwich Spa Hospital will see its ‘Blue Penguin’ join 39 others to complete the Waddle of Worcester Trail.

It hopes the design will showcase not only the outstanding artist talent of the penguin’s designer, but also pay tribute to the many patients cared for by the St Richard’s family.

Claire Davenport, executive director of Droitwich Spa Hospital, said: “St Richard’s Hospice makes an enormous difference to families across our community.

“As a hospital, we have seen first-hand the impact their work has had on a member of our own family.

“It means a great deal to us all at Droitwich Spa Hospital to be able to support such a great organisation and to honour the memory of much-loved friends and family.

“The Waddle of Worcester is a fabulous and fun initiative  with an incredible cause at the centre of it, and we cannot wait for the launch and to see ‘Blue’ in the city.”
