Droitwich Spa Hospital worker 'braves the shave' for Macmillan Cancer Support

A MEDICAL records officer at Droitwich Spa Hospital has taken part in the ‘Brave The Shave’ campaign, losing his locks to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tristan Walton has set himself a target of £300 to support the charity’s important work in and around Droitwich.

The Brave Shave campaign was launched in 2015 and has so far generated £22.7million to support Macmillian in providing specialist health care, information, and financial support to those affected by cancer.

Mr Walton has worked at the hospital since 2019 and had been looking for a way to raise money locally for a cause close to his heart.

He said: “Some of my friends have raised money for Macmillan in this way before and it was very inspiring to see them raise so much for a charity that makes an incredible difference to the lives of those affected by cancer.

“I wanted to do it in winter to show solidarity, because those who go through chemotherapy often lose their hair and this can be incredibly distressing.

“I’ve had family and friends who have lost people close to them through cancer, knowing how deeply it affected them and how hard they had to work to care for them at home, I wanted to help Macmillan continue to support people across the country.

“No one should go through cancer without the support and resources to help them.”

As well as fund-raising for Macmillan, the campaign also encourages participants to give their hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young adults who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
