THE SWIMMING pool at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre is set to be closed from next week as part of refurbishment works.
The swimming pool closure will come into effect on Monday, February 23, as phase two of the refurbishment begins.
The front car park will also be closed, and there will be a temporary entrance to the building via the main hall.
The health suite and wet side changing rooms are set to shut, while the gym will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, February 23 and 24.
And the cafe will close on Monday and not re-open until August.
The first phase of the refurbishment – covering the ‘dry’ side of the centre, including the gym and changing rooms – has almost been completed.
However, the squash, racquetball and table tennis facilities will be available again, as will the newly refurbished dry side changing rooms and toilets.
Coun Dan Birch visited the site earlier this week, where he was shown around by representatives of Speller Metcalfe, which is carrying out the work.
He said: “The changing rooms for the gym look modern, and the building as a whole is already starting to feel refreshed
“I know the closure of the pool will be an inconvenience, but to ensure we can continue to offer you the best experience possible, it is crucial that this happens.
“Work on the new learner pool and cafe is still ongoing, and the learner pool, especially, is coming together nicely.
“Well done to Speller Metcalfe, who have done an absolutely brilliant job of managing this project.
“To carry out a project on this scale, while still keeping the building operational, has been no easy task.”
Speller Metcalfe’s regional director, Mark Hudgeon, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre redevelopment to life.
“Working closely with Alliance Leisure and the council, we are committed to delivering a facility that the local community can enjoy for years to come, combining modern design with sustainable solutions.”
