MORE than 30 people attended an open day at the Droitwich Spa Meeting Centre.
Potential new members, their families and carers joined in with a day packed with activities, taster sessions, refreshments and a special performance from the Droitwich Ukulele Band.
The centre is for people living with dementia in Droitwich and the surrounding area.
Among the activities were mini golf, dominoes, and bowling, followed by a ploughman’s lunch and rice pudding.
Alan Humphries, Droitwich Spa Meeting Centre trustee, said he was delighted with the success of the open day which was a great way of raising awareness of the centre in the community.
“It gave people a chance to see what fantastic work we and our partners are doing to help people and their families live well with dementia in Droitwich.
“These open days are vital to our ongoing success and I would like to thank everyone involved for all the hard work they’ve done for what was an absolutely fantastic day.”
The centre, originally run in partnership by Alzheimer’s Society and University of Worcester, is now overseen by its own Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire providing the support programme.
Members can join attend from 10.30am to 3.30pm Wednesday to Friday every week, all the activities and daily discussions are designed to interact and engage with the members.
The ultimate objective of the meeting centre is to give members and carers the tools and emotional support to adapt to the diagnosis, and for their continued wellbeing to live well with dementia.
A new bus service has also been launched from Kidderminster which has two different pick-up and drop-off points.
