Droitwich Spa Nursery and Kindergarten achieves prestigious 'Millie's Mark' status

DROITWICH Spa Nursery and Kindergarten (DSNK) has achieved the prestigious Millie’s Mark accreditation, the gold standard for paediatric first aid.

The Droitwich nursery, affectionately known locally as ‘The Hollies’, was awarded the status as all of its staff are fully trained in first aid.

Millie’s Mark is named after Millie Thompson who died after choking on food at a nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines, which England’s childcare settings follow, states one person with a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present or on outings.

DSNK has always ensured 90 per cent of staff hold a valid paediatric first aid certificate and the staff have all worked hard in their own time during weekends to gain the extra training.

Manager Ashley Webb said the management team had always understood the importance of investing in staff and their professional development to maintain exceptional levels of childcare.

“Children’s safety has always been paramount so we jumped at the opportunity to belong to this fantastic accreditation scheme.”
