A DONATION of £1,000 was presented to the Droitwich Spa Food Bank by members of the town’s Rotary Club.

President Helen Karakashian handed the cash to the Food Bank’s representative Mary Stanbury on the steps of Rotary House.

This sum was made up from £500 from the Rotary Club and a matching grant of £500 from Foundation, an International Rotary Fund.

Tom Jones, Club Lead for Foundation which successfully applied for the grant, also gave Mary with a basket of cooking apples from the President’s apple trees.

Mary said the pandemic had led to an increase in demand for the Food Bank which had provided 1,962 meals since April.

She expressed concern the need would no doubt rise even further with the threat of unemployment and thanked the local community for its generosity.

It had enabled them to buy a van to help with extra food collection to meet the high demand.
