MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Droitwich Spa held its annual Burn’s Supper at the Gaudet Luce Golf club.
Droitwich Town Crier Edgar Harwood ‘addressed the haggis’ with a very witty and clever translation of Burns into English.
Mike Lambden gave the Toast to the ‘Immortal Memory’ and Laurie Evans ‘toasted the lassies’ in inimitable style while Alison Harris gave a brilliant reply.
Jim Gillespie reviewed Burns’ monuments around the World which run into many thousands.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Altogether, the magic of a Burns night worked once again.”
The first Burns supper was held in July 1801, when nine of the poet’s close friends gathered to mark the fifth anniversary of their friend’s death. The pattern was set, which has been repeated in every country around the World, for the past 217 years.
