STUDENTS in Droitwich have received standing ovations from audiences after performing Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical in their latest theatre production.
The RGS Dodderhill students, aged eight to 16, bought the magical story to life with musical direction from head of music, Caroline Vinson and guidance from drama teacher and head of performing arts, Ashley Humphries.
The production was inspired by Dennis Kelly’s play-written edition of the musical with lyrics by Tim Minchin and featured fun performances and choreography, striking costumes and a vibrant set design.
Ashley Humphries said: “We are incredibly proud of our pupils and the hard work they’ve put into this production.
“The performances showcased the creativity, talent, and dedication of our young performers, and we are thrilled to share it with parents and the local community.”
Students from neighbouring schools including Sytchampton Primary, St Peters First School and St Andrew’s First School were invited to watch the matinee performances of the Roald Dahl classic.
Coun George Duffy, expressed his enjoyment of the performance.
He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the Matilda performance today, it was highly entertaining. The confidence that the pupils showed was incredible.”
