Droitwich to be included in constituency with Bromsgrove if boundary changes go ahead

UNDER the proposed Parliamentary boundary changes Droitwich, including Fernhill Heath and Martin Hussingtree would be included in a new combined ‘Bromsgrove and Droitwich’ constituency.

Another alteration would see Hanbury moved into the Evesham constituency.

The plans, put forward by the Boundary Commission of England, are aimed at making each electoral area of a similar size and reducing the number of MPs from 650 to 600.

They will now be voted on by MPs and, if agreed, could come into force for the next election.

Nigel Huddleston, the MP for Droitwich’s current constituency Mid Worcestershire, said: “I think in many ways my heart says keep it how it is because I have built up a lot of relationships in the current constituency.

“But this is an independent body and we have to be respectful.”

He added he had said all along he would accept any changes as constituent numbers were important and the aim was to make things fairer.

“I will be voting in favour of the proposal.”
