THE FIRST ever Droitwich Spa Youth Festival will be held on July 8 in the town’s Lido Park.
Youth Fest will feature a host of activities, including live music performed by local bands, musicians and singers, bouncy castles, outdoor activities and a variety of food and drink.
The extravaganza will be the biggest event to have been organised by the Droitwich Spa Youth Council, which was launched back in 2015.
The group now has around 50 members from Droitwich Spa High School and the town’s two middle schools – Westacre and Witton.
The young people have worked hard to decide on what should be featured at the festival, as well as organising the activities, costing them and undertaking the PR to promote it.
Coun Sital Harris, who helped launch the youth council and has been involved with it ever since, said: “There has been a lot of criticism of Droitwich in the past over the lack of things to do in the town for young people and the youth council is starting to change this.
“When we launched the youth council, this was the kind of event we wanted it to organise – it’s all about involving the young people in the Droitwich community.
“They are the future of the town and will play an important role in it.
“I’m absolutely delighted that this is happening and we are hoping everyone will come out and support it.”
She said if it was successful, the Youth Festival could become an annual event, there were also a host of other activities in the pipeline.
Any other young people interested in being part of the Youth Council and festival are urged to get in touch, along with any local businesses or other organisations which can offer help and support.
