Droitwich to host to brand new music festival and the crowds will Lovett

Droitwich Editorial 4th Aug, 2017   0

A NEW music festival will take place in Hampton Lovett next Saturday, August 12.

The Lovett Music Fest will run from 1.30pm to 11.30pm and feature six acclaimed acts in total.

Singer-songwriter Sharon Murphy spent many years in Clifden, West Ireland. She began to sing at an early age and taught herself to play the guitar. She has a unique singing voice and her guitar playing is a unique blend of driving rhythmic percussive beats and delicate gentle fingerpicking. Her sound spans a range of genres from reggae to folk and blues and she was featured on TV’s The Voice.

Experienced entertainer Clayton Schlimper has played the lead role in a number of theatrical productions, such as Return to the Forbidden Planet, Buddy Holly, Grease the Stadium Spectacular and Blues Brothers. Next Saturday he will be performing a tribute show featuring music from The BeeGees, Neil Diamond, Tina Turner, ABBA, Mick Jagger, Buddy Holly and Elvis.

Warwickshire based Warren James regularly tours Britain and Germany and has played electric lead-guitar with many country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll shows. His playing style has been compared to Albert Lee and James Burton and his fast acoustic lead style has seen him feature in many popular bluegrass groups. He also plays banjo with traditional jazz and blues.

The festival will be a local gig for Worcester’s Ben Vickers who will perform reggae funk and soul music.

Another Worcestershire act at the event is four-piece Horror On The High Seas. They were formed in 2014 and blend the best elements of rock, punk and indie into their original material. The band has been described as angry, anthemic, savage and sing-a-long, all at the same time.

And, completing the line up, are The Test Pilots. The band, established for almost 20 years, has performed all over the country. The act consists of three original members of the band who will perform a variety of songs from the 1950s to the present day in their own acoustic style.

Organiser Lynne Sproule told The Standard: “We held a free event last year to try it out and it went down really well so we are hoping for a similar response this year.

“We have got some great acts performing and there is a variety of music styles meaning there will be something for everyone.”

Those who go along are urged to take a picnic and drinks, although there will be food available to buy from a snack van from 8.30pm.

Tickets – available from www.lovettmusicfest.com – are £10 each
