Droitwich to remember 'kind and funny' Alfie Steele with service

Droitwich Editorial 7th Jul, 2023 Updated: 7th Jul, 2023   0

THE TOWN will get the chance to pay tribute to ‘brave, kind and funny’ Alfie Steele with a special service next Sunday (July 16).

‘Alfie’s warrior salute’ will start at 5pm next to the Droitwich Lido park bandstand, with Rev Laura Handy helping to lead the service.

People will be able to bring a pen to write down messages of support and memories of Alfie at the service.

Those wishing to pay tribute to Alfie have also been asked to bring pictures of blue teddy bears or blue hearts.

The family are unable to be there, but the tributes, messages and memories will be shared with them when the time is right over the coming years.

Rev Handy said: “This is an opportunity for the community to come together to say goodbye to Alfie after his death in such tragic circumstances.

“Many local people would have liked to have attended his funeral, but Covid and the circumstances of his tragic death meant they were unable to do so.

“This short gathering will provide a family-friendly space to honour Alfie’s memory and pray for his family at this time.

“Those who have shaped the idea felt many people both wanted and needed a way to gather to honour Alfie as the brave, kind and funny young man that he should be remembered as.

“It is also intended as an opportunity to show that there are so many good people in our community who do care and those who shaped the tribute hope that it will show Alfie’s family that we continue to think of them and support them.”

Alfie was just nine years old when he was found lifeless in the bath of his home on Vashon Drive on February 18, 2021.

His mother Carla Scott and her partner Dirk Powell were jailed over his killing last month.
