Droitwich trio scoop accolades at Wychavon's Community Recognition Awards

Droitwich Editorial 16th Mar, 2018   0

A TRIO of Droitwich ‘heroes’ have scooped accolades at the Community Recognition Awards 2017 for their efforts in helping to make Wychavon a better place to live and work.

Open to the whole community, the awards give those who have volunteered, coached or helped others in the district a chance to gain well deserved recognition.

Wychavon’s judging panel read through all of the nominations and the inspirational stories in its search for those people who had done the most to help people of all ages improve their neighbourhood, club, society or community during 2017.

The Art Recognition Award went to Rhys Jones from Droitwich for all of the hard work he has put in to making the Droitwich Arts

Network’s three-week Artsfest a success.

He said: “I was delighted to be a winner last night. It was an excellent event.”

Amy Pullen recieved the Sporting Hero Award for the time and dedication she puts in to coaching for Droitwich Taekwondo and fundraising for LeukaemiaCARE.

Both the Community Project Award and the Enabling Healthy Lives Award went to Mike Jones for the outstanding efforts he has put in to the success of the Mettabox Gym to help the residents in Wychavon become healthier and happier.

Tracy Grubb, community development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “Every category this year was full of very well deserving people who put the needs of others before themselves.

“It was very hard for the judges to choose the finalists let alone the winners and it just goes to show how many unselfish people dedicate their time and efforts to make others happy and feel included in their communities.

“I feel very proud that they are part of the Wychavon District.”
