A DROITWICH woman who’s dad and grandmother were both affected by cancer will be lacing up her trainers at the London Marathon next weekend to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

Laura Cadwell will be pounding the streets of the capital on Sunday (April 24) and has chosen the charity after it helped her and her family following the diagnoses.

She said: “I am running the marathon for St Richard’s to support the amazing work they do for patients and families.

“My Grandma died from cancer ten years ago this year and my dad was diagnosed with cancer about six or seven years ago.

“He was fully cleared by his consultant at the end of last year which was a special time for the family, so I know how much charities like St Richard’s are needed and the work they do is vital to everyone involved.”

Laura will be taking on the 26-mile challenge alongside 12 other runners for the cause and the group has already raised an impressive £12,000 for the charity which supports more than 2,600 patients and their families every year.

It offers care to cancer sufferers in their own homes, at its day hospice or in its 17-bed in patient unit.

It also provides around the clock care and gives people a place to spend their last days if they wish.

Jodi Brandwood, St Richard’s Hospice’s community fund-raiser, said: “The London Marathon is a high profile and prestigious event and it is always a delight to cheer on all the runners, especially those who are taking part in memory of someone dear to them.

“This year there are more runners than ever raising money for St Richard’s Hospice.

“Some are veteran marathon runners and others will be taking on the personal challenge for the first time.

“We are very grateful for their support and wish them all the very best.”
