AN ENERGETIC eight-year-old from Droitwich is preparing to complete a ‘smiddle’ distance triathlon to raise funds for charity.
Drew Hankins, who attends Chawson First School, will take on the triathlon, which is halfway between standard and middle distance, from next to July 20 to raise £500 for WaterAid.
Over the course of five days, Drew will complete a 2,000m swim, 60km cycle and a 15km run.
He has no specific time goal and is aiming for a best effort each day.
Drew’s dad, Wade, said: “He is quite an active child and we thought it would be a great thing for him to achieve.
“He goes swimming a couple of times a week, plays football and does karate.
“Over the next few weeks we will do a few practice runs to try out the distance.
“It has become a family activity.
“He really rises to the challenge and in a few years I will struggle to keep up.”
At the end of August last year, Drew completed an Olympic distance triathlon over five days and raised more than £600 for the British Red Cross.
