Droitwich Youth Council looks forward to future

Droitwich Editorial 1st Jul, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH Youth Council is celebrating a successful first year and is already looking forward to many more activities in the coming 12 months and bolstering its ranks.

The organisation, which is supported by town estate agent Matt Nicol and Co, was officially launched at last year’s Salt Fest when it had just eight members.

Now there are 17 and those behind the scheme are looking forward to welcoming even more.

Some new councillors were enlisted last month when Westacre Middle School held a democracy day and election.

In the last year, members of the Youth Council have taken part in the town’s Food and Drink Festival, held an EU Referendum debate, provided a waiter service for Bands in the Park and took part in a project with the Droitwich Rotary Club aimed at getting more young and older people to mix together and interact.

And there is plenty more planned for 2016/17 with an outdoor music festival, a project to build international relations, a careers fair and the development of the group’s website.

As well as hoping for new members, the Youth Council is also appealing to local businesses for any help and support they can give.

Coun Sital Harris spearheads the Youth Council with Coun Richard Morris and recently two other town councillors – Shaun Best and Alan Humphries – have also got involved.

Coun Harris said: “It has been a great first year that has seen the Youth Council really engage with the Droitwich community and hopefully the project will get bigger and better in the next 12 months.

“Whether it is young people who want to get involved or businesses and other organisations that want to forge links and offer support, we want to hear from you.

“Droitwich Town Council would like to wish the young people a happy summer break and looks forward to working with them again come September.”

For more information or to help sponsor the group, call Coun Richard Morris on 07860 733460 or leave a message for Coun Harris at the Droitwich Town Council office on 01905 774258.
