THE TOWN’S Repair Cafe has a new home and is now looking for more volunteers to help continue its good work.
The next event at The Hub in St Andrew’s Square will take place from 10am to 2pm next Saturday, January 25.
People can take along household items that need fixing. Last repairs need to be booked in by 1.30pm.
Simon Britton from BD Makerspace said: “We’d like to thank Sajid and Rhys at the community hub for working with us to help make this happen.”
Try something new in 2025
People thinking of trying their hand at something new or helping their community in 2025 are urged to consider joining the Droitwich Repair Cafe team as a volunteer with a variety of roles available.
The group wants to bring back its pop-up STEM (science, technology, electronics/engineering, maths) events like its old regular monthly ‘Tech Thursdays’. Engineers with a passion for education are urged to get in touch.
The committee which organises the Repair Cafe and its events is also looking for new members to help run them and to ensure it does not miss out on funding opportunities and grant applications.
Simon added: “We need experienced and capable organisers to ensure all our ducks are in the right row when we apply for CIC status, and we also need a friendly accountant to help us with bank accounts, insurance and grants.”
Long-term goals
The long-term goal for the group is a ‘Makerspace Movement’ to open a permanent premises with a workshop for hire, tool library, art / design space, access to 3D printers and Computer Neumerically Controlled (CNC) tools, storage, and space for STEM events.
Anyone wanting to make that happen and promote the ‘repair, recycle, reuse’ ethos to help mitigate the climate crisis should also contact Simon.
And, although Droitwich Arts Network does amazing things, there is never enough space for local artists to work. BD Makerspace wants to hear from people with small, affordable studio spaces for local creatives and inventors to set up while they are building up to full-time businesses.
Simon added: “We have so many dreams and so little time – but with enough committed folk involved, we can make it happen.
“So please come and join us.”

Due to a pre-existing booking, the February Repair Cafe will happen a week earlier on Saturday, February 15.
