A GROUP of martial arts fighters from Hopwood Fighting Fit in Aston Fields will showcase their moves at Droitwich’s Chateau Impney Hotel between 7pm and 12.30am tonight (Friday).
The academy launched a new 12-week programme, ‘Battle Hardened MMA’ to help ambitious young athletes train and compete in front of an audience.
Members learned the skills of grappling, boxing, kicking, striking and blocking, with most starting the course without any experience.
Tonight’s ‘Fight Night’ features ten fighters who joined only recently joined the academy.
Spectators will enjoy a three-course meal, a comedian and live music from local band ‘Vehicle’.
Owners Andy and Sharon Hopwood have been in Aston Fields for 14 years and Andy has been renowned in the martial arts world for more than 30 years.
Andy said the ethos of the academy was to train hard but with a smile.
“It is all about the correct guidance, mental and physical, the mindset must be there.
“We teach a variety of people in both classes and on an individual basis with ages ranging from seven to 70.”
The 12 week courses run throughout the year and not all attendees choose to compete, some do it for fitness and to learn a skill.
