Droitwich's Ffion makes the 'write' impression in Rotary contest

A GIRL from Dodderhill School in Droitwich is celebrating after winning a competition for Young Writers run by the Rotary Club.

Ffion Brighton, 12, fought off others from across the West Midlands and Worcestershire district and has gone through to the national final.

Some entries were submitted through schools and others were sent directly.

Alison Harris, one of the judges, said it was a delight to read the entries from schoolchildren from all over the Midlands.

“Ffion’s short story stood out amid a very strong field because she had chosen a subject matter with which everyone could identify, kept the interest going throughout and brought the story to a dramatic and unexpected climax with excellent use of punctuation.”

The next writing competition has already been launched by the Rotary Club.

Entrants will be challenged to produce a written or typed story of either one page of A4 or 500 words long entitled ‘Light Up The Community’.

Writers should put together a story about a project in their community which they know about or suggest one which will help others and improve life for people in the local area.

Entry forms can be obtained from Sandy Laird 01905 773620.
