Droitwich's Friday Charter Market set for big return

Droitwich Editorial 23rd Mar, 2023 Updated: 24th Mar, 2023   0

DROITWICH’S Friday Charter Market is set to make a welcome return to the town centre on April 21.

An agreement has been reached between the town council and Bluebell Events to bring the popular attraction back to Victoria Square between 9am and 4pm every Friday.

Bluebell, run by Dave Biddle and Chloe Ford, started Evesham Market in July last year with just four to six stalls and since then, after going from strength-to-strength, there are 20 regular traders.

Dave and Chloe started out at fishing lakes and poultry fairs before progressing to craft fairs and markets.

They also continually visit other events to check out how they are run and to see if they can take anything on board.

Dave said: “We have learnt a lot and know what makes a good market.

“We keep rents low to help the traders and try to get a variety.

“To be a success, the traders have to make money and the markets have to be places people want to visit and enjoy.”

Chloe added: “We just want people to come down, check out what’s on offer and to support their new-look Droitwich Charter Market.”

All 22 available stalls have already been snapped up and there is now a waiting list, such has been the events popularity.

The traders are all from either Droitwich or Worcestershire, keeping it local and reducing stallholder miles.

Among the items on offer will be fruit and veg, artisan bread and bakery items, cakes, candles, jewellery, men and women’s clothes, records and DVDs, sweets, craft stalls and more. Another trader will have three further stalls, one stall will also be available for charities and Dave and Chloe are awaiting confirmation from a butcher.

The previous charter market was immensely popular and only closed because the operator retired.

The event was due to return in 2018 but a new operator could not be found and then the pandemic years ensued.

Now, finally, the market will take pride of place back in the town.
