A CREATIVE Droitwich girl has seen her inspirational sand sculpture design become a reality after winning a national competition which was entered by more than 5,000 people.

Isabel Faith Jones, who is 11 and attends Westacre Middle School, entered the Kidz Competition in August. It was based on ‘When I grow up, I want to be….’ and was held in the seaside town as part of its Sand Sculpture Festival.

Isabel put her ‘Reach for the Stars’ design down on paper which depicted several figures at the bottom of a mountain who were holding stars and another figure which had scaled the mountain and was collecting their star.

Isabel said in her explanation: “I wanted to create an inspirational design that shows no matter what you want to be in life that you should ‘reach for your star’ and do the very best you can.”

Her entry was judged to be one of the best and last Wednesday (September 14) she and mum Zoe went down to Weston where she worked with professional sand sculptor Becky Sarll to create it.

As well as seeing her sculpture created, Isabel also got to put her hand print in a ‘Hollywood’ style star at the base of the sculpture.

Isabel also received a certificate, a set of professional sand-sculpting tools, a bag, free workshop tickets for her and 30 of her friends and £10 worth of goodies from the Sand Sculpture Festival shop.

Her mum Zoe Jenner Jones told The Standard: “She was absolutely over the moon when she found out she had won and it was so amazing to see her sculpture brought to life.

“She had a fantastic experience of learning some sand sculpting techniques from Becky who was brilliant.

” It was an amazing, memorable afternoon, one Isabel will remember for the rest of her life.”

Westacre headteacher Donna Evans said everyone at the school was very proud of Isabel and her inspirational design.

“The finished sandcastle looks amazing and we are pleased that Isabel was able to work with the sculptor to add the finishing touches to her design.

“I am sure her sandcastle design will truly inspire everyone to ‘Reach for the Stars’ and be the best they can be.”
