Droitwich's Jordan Bear Charity seeking volunteers as it works to rehome abandoned and abused Greek street dogs

A DROITWICH dog charity is seeking kind-hearted volunteers to help re-home Greek ‘street dogs’ in the UK.

Jordan Bear Charity, which provides rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing for abandoned and abused Greyhounds and Lurchers, is now branching out to bring more than 15 dogs from ‘Hector’s House’, a rescue centre in Crete, all the way to Droitwich.

They will arrive in batches of three every ten weeks, starting next Friday (February 10).

The charity, which has raised nearly £150,000 since 2007 towards saving hundreds of abused dogs, wants to hear from volunteers with a van or a large car to help collect the dogs from Tilbury, Essex, to bring them to Droitwich after their journey from Crete on the Friday.

The charity is also appealing for sponsorship toward the cost of bringing in the dogs, as well as volunteers willing to sit with the dogs, talk to them and reassure them.

Susan Boone, from the Jordan Bear Charity, said: “These unwanted scraps of life are at the bottom of the pile, abandoned and neglected, forced to live out their short lives, purely on their wits, always at risk of a sudden and violent death, with no-one to care for them.

“Once assessed and prepared for life in a home, as part of a family, these dogs will be offered for re-homing.

“We are confident they will make a welcome and valuable addition to their new family’s lives.”

Donations of bedding, towels, complete dry dog food, collars, leads and bowls are also needed.
