Droitwich's Rotary House changes hands so it can continue to be used by the community

A COMMUNITY meeting hub has been handed over to the Droitwich Spa and Rural Council for Voluntary Service (Droitwich CVS) so it can be used by people across the town.

The agreement was struck up by the CVS and the Droitwich Rotary Club for Rotary House in Corbett Avenue.

It was built in 1958 using funds raised by the club with matched funding from local businessman HB Everton.

The building, which has access to the Lido Park, was used originally by the ‘Sons of Rest’, providing a relaxing space for retired men, mainly salt miners.

The premises, with a small kitchen and garden, soon became a wider community facility used by local organisations for a wide range of activities.

It has been refurbished over the years with generous support from a number of charitable organisations.

Rotary President Edgar Harwood said: “We have been concerned for a while about the club’s ability to continue to maintain and administer Rotary House and have looked at several alternatives to provide continuity.

“After considering all the options we are delighted Droitwich CVS has agreed to take over the building and its management.

“Their charitable aims and objectives are similar to ours, which gives us great comfort that Rotary House will continue, as intended originally, to provide facilities to the local Droitwich community.“

Tonia Enderbury BEM, Chief Officer of Droitwich CVS, added: “We are delighted to become the new owners of Rotary House and will continue to run it as a community venue with its well-regarded facilities.

“Our charity has been in Droitwich for many years and we already run The Old Library as a community hub, providing a number of different services to the local community.

“We are very honoured that Droitwich Rotary Club have entrusted us with the safekeeping of their building.”
