CHILDREN from Droitwich’s Salvation Army pre-school joined the charity’s weekly friendship group for a celebration to commemorate the children’s first coronation ahead of the crowning of King Charles III.
The Friendship Group, made up of the older generation, shared stories with the youngsters of the late Queens coronation in 1953, as they decorated coronation crowns and shared tea and cakes.
The event promoted inter-generational community through activities including balloon tennis and a ‘guess who’ style game where children had to match interesting facts on cue cards to members of the Friendship Group.
Carolyn Gomersall, community programme coordinator at the Droitwich Salvation Army said: “Its great for different generations to come together to celebrate the coronation, something the kid will be seeing for the first time.
“The older generation loved having the kids around and enjoyed sharing memories of the Queens coronation with them.
The event had a real buzz and a lovely atmosphere, it was particularly special for the children who may no longer have grandparents.”
The Droitwich Salvation Army Friendship group meet weekly to promote togetherness and friendship among the older generation and monthly with the pre-school children to promote inter-generational connectivity.
The Droitwich Salvation Army pre-school will be celebrating their 35th birthday in July, with plans to host an event in commemoration of the schools milestone.
