DROITWICH’S St Andrews Town Hotel has been sold for £1.55million.

The two-storey Georgian building, sold by Christie and Co, was constructed in 1820 and was originally owned by the Droitwich Town Clerk.

When it became a hotel it was made into 31 en-suite rooms across all three floors.

It also has a reception area, bar, lounge, garden room, library and a drawing room/restaurant.

The building has had several extensions added over the years, including an orangery.

It has provided the backdrop to weddings, private events and celebrations and is surrounded by a large outdoor area, featuring gardens, trees and a paved terrace.

Previous owner Aidan Stevens also acquired the St Andrews Town Hotel through Christie and Co in July 2012 and opted to sell so he could focus on an exciting spa development at another hotel he owns.

Mr Stevens said: “St Andrews will always have a special place in our hearts, but we are very excited about our plans for the next 18 months.”

New owner Khurshid Anwar is an experienced operator, having owned Ely House Hotel in Wolverhampton for 15 years.

He plans to run both businesses and further expand his portfolio in the future.

“I am extremely excited about becoming the new owner of such a historical hotel.

“My congratulations to previous owner for his achievements.

“I am looking forward to taking the hotel to the next stage to becoming a first choice destination for our guests visiting the area either for business or pleasure.”

Charles Jones, Christie and Co’s senior business agent who handled the sale, said he wished Khurshid all the best in his new venture.
