DROITWICH’S Tennis in the Park group, which organises sessions in the Lido Park, has won a prestigious award.
The organisation has been named ‘Community Tennis Venue of the Year” by the Hereford & Worcester LTA in front of 200 people at a special ceremony held at Worcester Cricket Club.
Following the successful campaign to get the courts resurfaced the group, with the support of Wychavon District Council, organises low cost pay as you go tennis sessions every Saturday morning at the Lido Park for juniors, adults and visually impaired players of all abilities.
The sessions, run by a qualified coach and supported by volunteers, show the game is as much about having fun as it is being coached to play tennis.
Neil Bates, who helps run the sessions, said they were amazed to find out they had won the award.
“This award is testament to everyone involved behind the scenes to make this happen and all those players who come down every week and join in.”
The groups take place every Saturday morning at the park and cost £2 per time on a pay as you go basis.
Junior sessions start at 9am with the adult and visually impaired sessions starting at 10am.
Each group lasts an hour and all equipment is provided free of charge.
